#techtheatre fellowship (coming soon)

The Broadway Unlocked #TechTheatre Fellowship gives qualifying theatre companies access to experts and partners that help recommend existing technology, then develop, implement and make a case for vital applications in their work.

In Fall of 2019, Broadway Unlocked launched a beta of the Fellowship with Theatre of the Oppressed NYC (TOO). 200 people gathered at Brooklyn Borough Hall to participate in a Legislative Theatre performance that resulted in recommendations on next steps from the audience, performers and activists in attendance.

Broadway Unlocked, in partnership with Poll Everywhere and TOO, developed end-to-end interactive polling component, seamlessly integrated into the TOO performance, allowing audience members to make their recommendations and watch the results in real time.

In addition to the holistic integration of technology into the theatre making, TOO went home with access to invaluable data, leading to recommendations that have now been realized, in part, as the BE HEARD Workplace Act, a groundbreaking set of reforms that extend protections against harassment and other forms of discrimination to all workers; remove barriers to access to justice, such as short statutes of limitations and restrictively interpreted legal standards; promote transparency and accountability; and require and fund efforts to prevent workplace harassment and discrimination.
